MSD to save 2.3bn/- annually through its state-of-the-art warehouse in Dar

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Medical Stores Department (MSD) is expected to save more than 2.3bn/- annually following the construction of a new state-of-the-art warehouse in Dar es Salaam, eliminating the need to rent private storage facilities for health commodities.

The savings projection was announced after MSD officially handed over the project site and construction permit to China’s Hainan International Company, which will build the modern warehouse at Keko, near the institution’s headquarters.

MSD Director General Mavere Tukai said the 3,900-square-metre facility will incorporate modern technology and renewable energy solutions to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs and support environmental conservation efforts. Construction is expected to be completed within 12 months.

Tukai added that funding for the project is already secured, assuring timely completion. Once operational, the warehouse is expected to strengthen MSD’s capacity to store and distribute medical supplies, improve service delivery and enhance the availability of health products across the country.
