Morogoro to host Classic 2026 sport event in June

MOROGORO: THE Morogoro Classic 2026 will be held from 12 to 14 June at Morogoro Gymkhana Club, bringing together golf, tennis, youth sport and community activities in a three-day fundraising and networking event.

Speaking during the launch of promotional material this week, organiser Anita Siwale said the initiative is aimed at supporting youth development through sport while also strengthening community engagement.

She said the event will combine sporting competition with fundraising activities designed to support local projects.

Further details on participating teams and the full schedule are expected to be released closer to the event.

Activities will begin on Friday evening with a “Pitch & Putt by Floodlight” session designed as a fun and social opener featuring prizes and entertainment.

Saturday’s programme will host the main 18-hole golf competition, while Sunday will conclude with a relaxed 9-hole fun round open to wider participation.

Organisers have also placed strong emphasis on youth engagement through a dedicated junior tennis and golf competition.

“The youth programme is intended to provide opportunities for young athletes to showcase their talent and gain exposure in competitive sport,” she said.

A key feature of the weekend is its fundraising campaign for the Youth Foundation Programme, an initiative focused on increasing access to sports for local children and nurturing future Tanzanian athletes, according to Siwale.

She states that proceeds and partnerships generated during the weekend will contribute toward supporting sporting opportunities for underserved youths in the region.

In addition to the sporting activities, the event is expected to provide networking opportunities for corporate stakeholders, sports enthusiasts and community leaders.

Organisers are also promising hefty prizes throughout the weekend as part of efforts to encourage broad participation.

Registration for the event is currently open, with further details available through official event channels and QR code registration platforms shared by the organisers.
