Mongella lures Saudi investor

Arusha Regional John Mongella has urged Saudi Arabian investors to make the most of the conducive business environment in the region.

Mr Mongella who hosted Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Tanzania Abdullah bin Ali Alsheryan after the latter paid him a courtesy call on Monday morning, said opportunities were aplenty for the businessmen from the Arabian Peninsula.

The regional commissioner singled out agriculture, horticulture, tourism and the industrial sector as some of the potential areas for investment.

“Arusha is an ideal environment for you to set up your business ventures, and I urge to capitalize on this opportunity,” the regional commissioner appealed.

Mr Mongella’s rallying call comes three months after a delegation of investors from Saudi Arabia jetted in the country, seeking investment opportunities in agriculture, water and environment sectors.

Tanzania, is at the moment a home to 13 registered projects from Saudi Arabia.

The projects have brought a total capital of about $55.24 million, according to Tanzania Investment Center (TIC).

In his rejoinder, the envoy from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia assured the regional commissioner that the absolute monarchy will continue offering scholarship programmes to Tanzanian students every year.

In the same vein, he invited tour operating firms to take participate in forthcoming tourism expos scheduled to begin this month.
