Monduli disburses 248.9m/- to women, youth groups

MONDULI: MONDULI District Commissioner, Gloriana Kimath has handed over a cheque worth 248.9m/- to 21 entrepreneurial groups in the district.

The beneficiaries include ten women’s groups, nine youth groups and two groups of people with disabilities, all operating under the Monduli District Council.

The funds are part of the council’s 10 per cent loan allocation from its internal revenue.

Speaking during the handover ceremony in Monduli, Ms Kimath urged the groups to use the funds responsibly and avoid engaging in alcohol abuse and gambling.

She also emphasised the importance of honesty in loan repayment, warning that defaulters would face legal action.

“These loans are important for young people as they help reduce undesirable behaviour in society. Ward and district development officers should closely monitor the progress of these groups,” she said.

The Chairperson of the Monduli District Council, Kisioki Moitiko, urged beneficiaries to maintain financial discipline, noting that this would enable them to grow their businesses and transform Monduli into a hub of entrepreneurs.

He added that since the loans are interest-free, timely repayment would build trust and increase their chances of accessing credit from other financial institutions.

Speaking on behalf of the Council’s Executive Director, the Head of Trade, Industry and Investment, Haruna Haji, called on the groups to repay the loans on time so that the funds can be revolved to support other beneficiaries, thereby improving the economic well-being of residents.

On her part, the Chairperson of the Tumaini Walemavu Group from Mto wa Mbu Ward, Santrabi Shom, thanked the sixth phase government for providing the loans, noting that they would help lift members out of poverty and improve their livelihoods.
