Modern scanners help TRA collect 1.2tri/- in revenue  

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has said that revenue collections through the customs department have increased to 1.2tr/- per month, up from an earlier average of 800bn/-.

Speaking in Dar es Salaam, the TRA Commissioner General Yusuph Mwenda during the celebration of World Customs Day noted that the increase is due to significant government investments, including the purchase of 57 specialized scanners worth 90m US Dollars , aimed at strengthening cargo inspections at the country’s borders.

Additionally, Mr Mwenda noted that the use of the modern TANCIS system, which facilitates trade and is integrated with customs systems of East African countries, has improved operational efficiency and helped curb the entry of dangerous and illegal goods into the country.

Moreover, he assured traders that TRA will continue to combat smuggling at border points and ensure that all goods entering the country comply with national laws and international standards, including quality and safety requirements.
