Luis Miquissone

DAR ES SALAAM: LUIS Miquissone became the fourth player to be released by Simba as they continue to reshuffle the squad ahead of the local and international 2024/25 season.

Miquissone rejoined Simba from Egypt’s giants Al Ahly on July 22nd last year where he was hired, but found his way back in the country.

According to the statement released yesterday through Simba App, said he signed a one-year renewable contract, but his performance has not satisfied the club hence the reason he has been offloaded.

“He first joined us in January 2020 from UD Songo where he was on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns and during that time, his performance was satisfactory and he was loved by many fans.

“In July last year, he returned from Al Ahly where we hired him but still, his performance was not convincing as before, hence, the management has decided not to extend his contract.

“Since joining us last season, he played 19 Premier League matches; he managed to provide three assistances and scored one goal in Mapinduzi Cup.

“The management is keen to make major improvement of our squad ahead of next season and Miquissone is not part of our plan,” reads the information, while wish- ing him good luck in his new life outside Simba.

As of yesterday afternoon, the Msimbazi Street giants cleared three players who are John Bocco, Saidi Ntibazonkiza and Shabani Chilunda.

The trio were wished all the best in their new endeavors and were thanked for their positive contributions throughout their stay at the club.

For Bocco, he joined the club in July 2017 from Azam FC and he managed to help Simba win several trophies throughout h i s seven-year stay.

After his departure, on Tuesday, the club extended a farewell hand to Ntibazonkiza who stayed at the club for one and a half year from Geita Gold.

His best moment at the Reds was in the 2022/23 season when he emerged the top goal scorer after netting 17 goals and he was also voted the Best Midfielder of the Season.

“Despite playing for a short time, Ntibazonkiza has left a big mark in our team courtesy of his remarkable services on and off the pitch…the m a n a g e m e n t wishes him all the best in his football career outside Simba,” reads part of the infor- mation from Simba App.

Yesterday (Wednesday), it was the turn of Chilunda who joined the club on a one year loan with an extension option.

“During the January transfer window, Chilunda was loaned to KMC until the end of the season but for now, he is not in plans of our team for next season…Simba believes in his potential and he is set to do well at the club that will sign him.

“We wish him all the best in his new life outside Simba,” a statement from Simba App revealed.

Speaking with the Daily News yesterday, former Pan African player Danny Magogo said Simba’s move to let go Chilunda was not good for him.

“Personally, I believe that Chilunda still had something to offer at Simba because he is young with full of life… he could have been given a second chance but, there is nothing we can do about it,” he said.

He also used the advantage to urge all clubs in the country to take all necessary precautions when releasing and recruiting players to avoid regrets when the new season begins.
