Mgunda calls loss to Azam wake-up call

SIMBA Assistant Coach Juma Mgunda said their 2-1 loss to Azam is a wake-up call to them while his counterpart Kali Ongala pledged to undergo thorough preparations in order to clinch the silverware.

The victory enabled Azam to become the first team to qualify for the Azam Sports Federation Cup (ASFC) final as they wait to engage either defending champions Young Africans or Singida Big Stars who will meet later in the second semifinal match.

With the outcome, the possibility of Simba ending the season without a trophy is high as they trail current league leaders Yanga by a seven-point gap.

At a post-match briefing, Mgunda revealed that the setback is a wake-up call to them saying they ought to come back stronger next season.

He said they have noted all that let them down this season and that the management is geared to sort them out before the start of the new season.

“We will be better next season after clearing away the challenges we have faced so that in the end, we can be able to compete for the championship,” he said.

He then conceded the defeat insisting that it is part of football and that they just need to wake up and focus on rebuilding the team.

For Ongala, he congratulated his charges for the good job saying this is the only path for them to at least claim a silverware.

“We are all happy to reach in the finals and I laud the players for making this come true…we fought hard to be where we are now,” he said.

Moreover, Ongala seized the platform to assure their supporters that they are going to scale up preparations in order to shine in the finals.

“Now that we are in the finals, there is nothing else other than to work hard and be ready to face any opponent who comes our way,” he said.

However, from three fixtures this season between Simba versus Azam in all competitions, the latter has won twice while one encounter has elapsed in a draw.

Here, it means Azam have been a tough nut for Simba to crack this season.
