Medical Camp to Offer Knee and Hip Surgeries

DAR ES SALAAM: A RENOWNED specialist in hip and knee surgery from Queen Elizabeth Hospital in the UK, Prof Mamoun Abdel Gadir, has arrived in Dar es Salaam for a five-day medical camp aimed at providing surgical care to Tanzanians.
The camp, which begins today at Muhimbili Mloganzila Hospital, will offer hip and knee replacement surgeries in collaboration with local experts.
Upon his arrival yesterday at Julius Nyerere International Airport, Prof Gadir was welcomed by staff from Global Medicare, the organisation coordinating the camp alongside Muhimbili Mloganzila Hospital. Mr Daniel Lazaro, General Manager of Global Medicare, noted that Prof Gadir’s presence will benefit Tanzanians suffering from joint issues.
“We are delighted to welcome Prof Gadir and look forward to seeing many Tanzanians benefit from this camp,” Mr Lazaro said.
Prof Gadir expressed gratitude to both the government and Global Medicare for facilitating his visit, emphasising his commitment to delivering high-quality care. He also highlighted the importance of collaboration with local specialists, believing it will foster deeper cooperation and shared knowledge between Tanzania and the UK.
“I am eager to work closely with my Tanzanian colleagues during this camp. Together, we will exchange valuable experiences in performing these surgeries and strengthen ties between our countries,” Prof Gadir said.
Assistant Director of Surgical Services at Mloganzila, Dr Goodlove Mfuko, confirmed that all preparations for the camp have been completed. He noted that this is the second time such a camp has been held at the hospital, following the successful treatment of 170 patients during the first session. He emphasised the educational benefits for local doctors who will gain invaluable experience from working alongside Prof Gadir.
