DAR ES SALAAM: ELIZABETH Masuka emerged as the winner of the 2024 Samia Fashion Festival held in Dar es Salaam over the weekend.
The model was honoured as the top model by international figure Happiness Magese. During the event, she received a dummy cheque for 3m/-.
Magese, who served as the Chief Judge for the Samia Fashion Festival Zanzibar shared her thoughts after the winners were announced. “I felt it was important to acknowledge the exceptional work of every model on stage. Elizabeth Masuka’s performance stood out and I’m proud to name her the Best Model of the event,” she stated.
Magese explained that the 3m/- prize recognizes the hard work and dedication of all the models, with special emphasis on Masuka, whose achievement was celebrated as the highlight of the evening. “This prize is not only a reward for Elizabeth but also a way to encourage emerging models in the Tanzanian fashion industry,” she said.

Reflecting on the festival’s success, Magese expressed pride in showcasing Tanzanian talent and highlighted the crucial role models play in the growing fashion industry. She also took a moment to reflect on her over 20 years of involvement in fashion and beauty.
“It’s a privilege to have served as Chief Judge for the Samia Fashion Festival. I have dedicated more than two decades of my life to this industry and witnessing the talent on display fills me with great pride,” she commented.
Magese further emphasised the significance of fashion, noting that in many European countries and beyond, it is not only regarded as art but also as a symbol of culture, heritage and identity.
She urged Tanzanians to continue supporting the growth of the fashion and beauty sectors, which are actively being developed by various stakeholders, including the government led by President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
Masuka, visibly moved by the recognition, expressed her deep gratitude.
“Meeting Millen (Happiness Magese) for the first time was a dream comes true. I am thrilled to have had this opportunity and to learn from someone who has achieved so much. The generous gift she gave me is my second happiness, after the joy of doing great work during the event. I’m thankful and pray that God continues to bless her. She is truly kind-hearted, always supporting Tanzanian models,” she shared.
Masuka also commended Magese for her commitment to uplifting the Tanzanian modelling industry, recognising her as a key role model in the field.
