Mashujaa rally past Singida

KIGOMA: MASHUJAA FC came from behind to beat Singida Black Stars 2-1 in a Mainland Premier League match at Lake Tanganyika Stadium in Kigoma yesterday.

The two sides played out a goalless first half, with neither able to make the most of their chances as both defences remained organised.

Singida Black Stars, however, started the second half with greater purpose and eventually broke the deadlock through an unusual piece of fortune.

Mashujaa goalkeeper Mussa Malika attempted to clear the ball from inside his area, but his clearance struck Singida’s Ahmad Pipino.

The ball changed direction off Pipino’s body and rolled into the net, leaving Malika stranded as Singida moved 1-0 ahead. Mashujaa did not have to wait long for a response.

Four minutes later, Haruni Chanongo delivered a corner into the Singida Black Stars penalty area, where Samson Madeleke rose to meet it and headed the ball past goalkeeper Yona Amosi to level the score.

The equaliser gave Mashujaa renewed momentum as they pushed for a second goal, while Singida looked to regain control and protect their point.

The decisive moment came in the closing stages when Haroun Lyawatwa unleashed a powerful effort towards the goal.

The shot took a deflection off the Singida Black Stars defensive line, changing its direction and beating Amosi to put Mashujaa 2-1 ahead.

Singida Black Stars were unable to find a late response as Mashujaa held on to complete the comeback and collect all three points.

The result leaves Singida Black Stars fourth in the table with 10 points, while Mashujaa move into sixth place with nine points.
