Mapung’o Foundation supports school feeding programme in Geita with 75 bags of maize

GEITA: THE Geita-based organization, Mapung’o Foundation, has donated 75 bags of maize to Nyakagwe Secondary School to support the provision of food to students.
The donation aims to support the government’s policy of ensuring that students have access to meals while at school and creating a conducive learning environment.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Mapung’o Foundation Coordinator, Mr Marco Victor, said the donation was made to school and government officials with the consignment also included 17 boxes of stationery.
“Our organisation has been involved in supporting the community. It was established in 2023 and registered in 2026. The main reason for doing this is because the community we live in is facing various challenges.
“As an organisation, we are directly affected by these challenges and have decided to take them as our responsibility. In this case, we worked with leaders to identify the need for food at this school,” Mr Marco said.
Butobela Ward Education Officer, Mr Andiyo Otieno said the food donation would contribute to improving education by giving students sufficient time to study.

He said that after securing a reliable supply of food, the school had established a special study-camp programme for Form Two and Form Four students to prepare them for their national examinations.
“This food will enable students to stay at school comfortably and study without interruptions caused by attendance challenges. This is why the government is strongly committed to ensuring that every school provides meals to students,” he said.
Nyakagwe Secondary School Assistant Head teacher, Mr George Edward said the school has a total of 452 students and requires an average of two bags of maize for its boarding students.
He said the donation would benefit not only boarding students but also day scholars, who would now have reliable access to lunch at school without disruptions.
