NJOMBE: PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa has directed the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) and the Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) to intensify monitoring and enforcement of vehicle weight limits to protect the country’s road infrastructure.
Speaking at a public rally at Igwachanya Primary School in Wanging’ombe District, Njombe Region, over the weekend, the PM emphasised that overloaded trucks are causing premature road damage.
“Road users must be responsible. When vehicles exceed weight limits, they damage roads. We must protect our infrastructure and use it responsibly,” he stressed.
The Prime Minister highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure, including the completion of roads linking regional capitals and the next phase focusing on inter-district connectivity.
Mr Majaliwa also directed district commissioners and directors to work with ward leaders to ensure that all school-age children are enrolled.
“The government has provided favourable conditions, including school buildings and learning materials. Every child must attend school,” he stated, reaffirming the government’s commitment to free education from early childhood to secondary level.
Deputy Minister in the Office of the President (Regional Administration and Local Government), Dr Festo Dugange, outlined key improvements in the health sector.
“In this district alone, President Samia Suluhu Hassan has allocated over 12bn/-, leading to the construction of 19 dispensaries, eight health centres and a district hospital,” Dr Dugange noted.
Njombe Regional Commissioner Anthony Mtaka echoed the importance of collaboration among leaders to fulfil President Samia’s vision of effective service delivery.
Meanwhile, Majaliwa urged the business community to remain confident in President Samia’s administration, assuring them of continued efforts to address taxation challenges.
“President Samia is committed to solving business challenges, which is why she has established several teams to review taxation issues,” he said, responding to concerns raised by business representatives in Makambako.
He further highlighted the formation of a special commission to review Tanzania’s tax system, following feedback from traders, including the fifteen points raised during a meeting in Kariakoo.
The premier also praised Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) Commissioner-General for enhancing tax collection while taking action against unethical TRA officials.

“Avocados are a profitable venture. If you want to prosper, plant avocados, there is now a reliable market,” he assured.
Majaliwa commended Njombe RC Anthony Mtaka for prioritising the avocado industry, ensuring a steady market for farmers. His visit to Njombe underscores the government’s commitment to infrastructure development, education, business growth and agriculture as key drivers of sustainable development.
