Majaliwa calls on clerics to champion national agendas
MANYARA: PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa has urged religious leaders across Tanzania to actively promote key national agendas, including environmental conservation, clean energy initiatives, tree planting and participation in the 2025 General Election.
Speaking at the consecration and ordination of Bishop Bethuel Mlula, the second bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Kiteto, at St Michael’s Anglican Cathedral yesterday, he also called upon them to strongly condemn actions that violate religious and cultural values.
“I urge our religious leaders to prioritise strengthening moral values and preventing ethical erosion. We must uphold good morals for the sustainability of our nation,” stated the Prime Minister who represented President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the occasion.
He also praised retired Bishop Isaiah Chambala for his dedicated service and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the well-being of Kiteto residents and all Tanzanians.
“I assure our religious leaders that the government stands with you. We will continue joint discussions and value your contributions,” he said.

Bishop Mlula commended the government for its development efforts in health and education and for maintaining peace and unity, a legacy of Mwalimu Julius Nyerere and Sheikh Abeid Amani Karume.
“Peace is a divine gift and we must use it to foster development,” he said.
The Most Reverend Maimbo Mndolwa, Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Tanzania, urged Kiteto residents to verify their voter registration for the upcoming elections.
“Having your name on the voter register is your right, but you could lose it if you don’t exercise it. Participate in the government’s electoral processes,” he emphasised.
