Mafia Island lures tourism investments as it marks the Pearl Jubilee of its Marine Park

MAFIA: DOMESTIC and international investors have been urged to take advantage of investment opportunities available on Mafia Island by developing various projects aimed at attracting more tourists to the island.

Speaking in Mafia District, Pwani Region, during the launch of the Mafia Island Festival and celebrations marking the 30th anniversary of the Mafia Island Marine Park, Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism Hamad Hassan Chande said the island offers significant tourism potential, including Indian Ocean beach tourism and historical sites.

Chande said these tourism assets should be developed and promoted to ensure that they are preserved and passed on to both the current and future generations.

He also encouraged young people to pursue training in driving and tour guiding as a means of creating self-employment opportunities and increasing their income.

The Deputy Minister further urged the district authorities to continue organizing various water-sports festivals and events to attract more visitors to the island.

He emphasized that the government, through the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, will continue working with local government authorities, private-sector stakeholders, investors and local communities to invest in and develop the unique natural resources found on Mafia Island.
