Madina ready as East Africa Swing tees off in Kenya

ARUSHA: TANZANIAN female golfer Madina Iddi has set her sights on a strong finish as the East Africa Golf Swing of the Sunshine Tour Development Tournament tees off today at the prestigious Royal Nairobi Golf Club.

The three-day, 54-hole tournament marks a significant step in the regional golf calendar and will feature a competitive field of both amateur and professional players from across East and Central Africa.

The tournament is part of the Sunshine Tour’s developmental initiative aimed at nurturing emerging talents in the region.

Madina, who hails from Arusha Gymkhana Club (AGC), departed Tanzania over the weekend brimming with confidence and determination.

Speaking to the ‘Daily News’ before her departure, she expressed readiness for the challenge ahead.

“I am well prepared. I understand it’s not going to be an easy go, but I will give it a good fight,” Madina stated, adding that her primary goal is to finish among the top ten, God willing.

The tournament will provide Madina with another opportunity to measure herself against some of the region’s best talents.

A former national ladies team member, Madina has been working to elevate her game and prepare for a future in the professional ranks.

“I am using these tournaments to gain more experience and sharpen my skills before turning professional,” she added.

“Every event is a learning curve and I am determined to make the most of it.”

Madina enters the tournament fresh off a strong showing at the Tanzania Open, where she finished sixth among elite amateur men’s and female competitors.

The event, held at Kilimanjaro Golf and Wildlife Estate in Arusha, featured a mix of top amateurs and professionals.

Over four gruelling rounds at the Tanzania Open, Madina carded 79, 79, 75 and 77, competing against a strong field that included several male golfers.

Her performance not only secured her a top-six finish among amateurs but also placed her tenth overall, including among the professionals.

Her standout performance also earned her the distinction of being the best-performing female golfer at the event, which attracted over 80 participants from across East and Central Africa.
