LGA Reps debate on governance, development
DODOMA: REPRESENTATIVES from Local Government Authorities (LGA) from across the country gathered here for the Stakeholders’ dialogue to discuss governance and development at the local level.
The meeting, held recently, aimed at bringing together key stakeholders in local government to share experiences, challenges and best practices in improving service delivery to citizens.
Organised by the Uongozi Institute, in partnership with the President’s Office Regional Administration and Local Government, the meeting sought to discuss how best to intensify good governance in joint efforts to increase efficiency in service delivery in the country, according to the Institute’s Chief Executive Officer, Kadari Singo.
Mr Singo noted that the meeting, which was attended by top executives from all districts countrywide, focused on the role of local government authorities in promoting good governance and sustainable development.
In his opening remarks, Deputy Minister of State in the President’s Office Regional Administration and Local Government, Dr Festo Dugange asked officials from LGAs to discuss and propose a comprehensive legal and policy reforms that are currently impeding service delivery to their citizens.

Dr Dugange admitted that there were several challenges in the implementation of various projects within LGAs which needed a comprehensive policy and legal framework.
“Already, President Samia Suluhu Hassan directed that you present to the government whatever you see as a legal and policy loophole in the course of discharging your duties,’’ he said.
He added: “Therefore, this meeting should discuss all these loop holes so that we can see where to rectify and move forward in offering services to our people.’’
At the Meeting, the Uongozi Institute’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Singo emphasised the importance of strong and effective local government authorities in ensuring inclusive and participatory governance.
He highlighted the need for collaboration between local authorities, civil society and citizens to address the challenges facing local communities and to ensure the effective delivery of public services.
During the meeting, participants discussed a range of issues, including accountability, transparency, citizen participation and the role of local government authorities in promoting economic development and social justice.
They also shared success stories of initiatives that have led to positive impacts on the lives of citizens in their respective communities.
