Let us safeguard teachers’ interests

DAR ES SALAAM: ON Friday, the nation marked World Teachers Day with promise from the Prime Minister, Mr Kassim Majaliwa that the government is committed to advancing the teaching profession by improving working conditions, strengthening training and enhancing teachers’ welfare.

Teachers’ Day is a special day for the appreciation of teachers. It may include celebrations to honour them for their special contributions in a particular field area, or the community tone in education.

This is one of the most celebrated days in the primary reason why countries celebrate this day on different dates. As Majaliwa said during the commemoration of World Teachers’ Day at Ushirombo Secondary School grounds in Bukombe District of Geita Region, teachers remain the foundation of the nation’s growth as they build an educated and skilled population.

Teachers are crucial because they impart knowledge, cultivate critical thinking and instill vital moral values and life skills in students, preparing them for success in their future careers and as responsible citizens.

They act as mentors and role models, inspiring students, providing a safe and supportive learning environment, and guiding them to reach their full potential. Beyond the classroom, teachers contribute to society by shaping future leaders and influencing community development.

Mr Majaliwa rightly said that every stage of progress begins in the classroom. Without teachers, there is no education, no future leaders and no strong nation. Teachers are the source of innovation and creativity for the next generation.
