Nation builders pay taxes before counting profits

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA stands today at an important crossroads between expanding prosperity and growing economic dishonesty among ambitious local investors and entrepreneurs. Government policies increasingly encourage Tanzanians participating within mining, construction, agriculture, transport, energy, and infrastructure projects nationwide through local content initiatives.

Thousands now supply materials, provide labour, transport goods, distribute food, and deliver services supporting influential foreign investors across the country.

These opportunities should inspire patriotic responsibility, transparent business practices, and stronger commitments toward national economic development by every serious entrepreneur. Unfortunately, some local investors secretly collaborate with dishonest traders, smugglers, and corrupt officials avoiding legitimate tax obligations owed to government.

They manipulate invoices, conceal revenues, understate imports, forge receipts and conduct transactions outside officially monitored financial systems for selfish enrichment. Such behaviour undermines national progress while depriving ordinary citizens essential services financed through properly collected public revenues from lawful taxation.

Taxes construct roads connecting farmers, businesses, schools, hospitals, ports, railways and markets throughout rapidly developing Tanzanian communities every single year. Taxes also strengthen electricity networks, water projects, security institutions and educational systems supporting future generations pursuing meaningful opportunities across Tanzania.

Businesspeople benefiting from government supported investments therefore carry moral responsibilities toward honestly contributing national resources through taxation without excuses whatsoever. Citizens regularly complain about unemployment, weak infrastructure, overcrowded hospitals, inadequate classrooms and insufficient public investment supporting vulnerable communities nationwide today.

However, those challenges intensify whenever businesses intentionally avoid taxes needed financing improved services and sustainable national development initiatives for citizens.

Dishonest traders gain unfair advantages against compliant companies because tax evasion reduces operating costs through illegal dishonest practices and corruption. Patriotism requires more than waving flags during celebrations while secretly stealing revenues intended supporting national transformation and public welfare programmes.
