KINONDONI is one of the leading districts in Dar es Salaam within Dar es Salaam with more land disputes compared to other areas.
Within five days, the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development managed to attend a total of 391 disputes of which 144 were from Kinondoni.
Other areas were Ilala (78), Kigamboni (39), Temeke (41).
Kibaha and Kisarawe districts in the Coast region recorded only three land disputes.
According to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr Allan Kijazi said three more days will be added for the completion of the exercise in Dar es Salaam region due to the number of conflicts.
The exercise began on August 1 to 5, this year, where land experts made analysis on vital issues that emerged: borders, compensation claims, planning and ownership.
Mr Kijazi said from the various complaints presented by citizens it identified eight major reasons leading to land disputes and mentioned them as follows
- Bogus land owners (13 people in one area)
- Invasion of other people’s land (99 people)
- Fraud/forgery of documents (16 people)
- Compensation claims (62 people)
- Lack of knowledge in the procedures and documents of land issues (95 people)
- Inheritance issues (12 people)
- Conflicts decided by the court or authorities (95)
