Kwala Port hailed for reducing congestion at Dar port

DAR ES SALAAM: THE dry port of Kwala has considerably reduced congestion at the Dar es Salaam due to its capacity to handle a bigger number of containers, the government revealed today .

The Inland Container Depot of Kwala, located in Kibaha District, Pwani Region, can handle 300,000 containers per year, which is three times the capacity of the Dar es Salaam Port, according to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports and government Spokesperson, Gerson Msigwa.

Msigwa stated this on March 16 during a press briefing he organized to allow journalists to visit the port.

He explained that this port, along with others being built in Mwanza, Isaka, Dodoma, Tabora, and at the borders of Burundi, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, will help reduce congestion at the Dar es Salaam Port.

Elaborating on the operations of the Kwala Inland Container Depot, Msigwa said the port can handle 823 containers per day.
