Korosho Queens stuns TZ Prisons at National Volleyball League

THE Korosho Queens volleyball team from Mtwara has caused a big upset after they humiliated a 3-1 set victory

RDAR ES SALAAM: THE Korosho Queens volleyball team from Mtwara has caused a big upset after they humiliated a 3-1 set victory against one of the country’s women’s top teams Tanzania Prisons of Dar es Salaam at the ongoing Tanzania National Volleyball League (TNVL).

The exciting match held at the Mwembe Yanga venue in Temeke, Dar es Salaam on Tuesday evening, saw Korosho Queens start strongly to take an early 25-18 set win.

However, Tanzania Prisons, the Dar es Salaam Reginal women’s champions, leveled the score at 25-16 in the second set to settle the match.

The second set’s loss awakened youthful Korosho Queens and came even stronger as the game went on to record a 25-17 and 25-21 win at the third and fourth sets respectively to seal an impressive 3-1 victory and dazzle volleyball fans turned to cheers the league.

The match was among several women’s battles and four men’s encounters played on the day at the same venue.

In another women’s showdown, Bandari beat Orkeeswa by a 3-0 set victory in search of the top spot.

In the men’s category battle of the day Faru KV hit 25-22 each of three sets to saw off Igombe by a 3-0 victory, Tanzania Prisons beat Kigoma Port also by the same 3-0 scoreline, while High Voltage beat Bandari Dar with a 3-1 set.

Organised by the Tanzania Volleyball Federation (TVF) and hosts region the league that brings together 17 top Tanzania regions league’s women’s and men’s teams, started on 22 July and is scheduled to climax on Saturday as they battle it out for the top honour.

Among competing teams, seven are women’s while ten are competing in the men’s discipline.

The women’s teams competing in the national league include Korosho Queens, Mafinga Parish, Jeshi Stars, JKT, Tanzania Prisons, Bandari Dar, and Orkeeswa.

On the other side, the men’s teams include JKT, High Voltage, The Capital, Bandari Dar, Kigoma Port, Tanzania Prisons, Faru KV, Igombe, Jeshi Stars and Chui.
