Kisoma completes Dubai World OCR head high

ABU DHABI:  THE World Dubai Obstacle Championship 2024 has showcased exceptional performances and inspiring stories across its first two days as Tanzanian athlete Mwahija Kisoma completed her United Arab Emirates (UAE) assignments.

Kisoma was one of the compelling figures whose incredible maiden OCR journey has captivated fans and fellow competitors alike.

Speaking to the ‘Sunday News’, Scope Event General Secretary, Abdallah Chapa, a key figure in the organisation of Kisoma’s participation in the Abu Dhabi and Dubai World championships, highlighted her resilience and determination.

Chapa said Dubai, Day 1 saw the championship kick off in a vibrant atmosphere.

He said esteemed Australian Performance Coach and Obstacle Course Racer Mark Shepherd interacted with Kisoma, setting the tone for a remarkable competition.

In her first event, the gruelling 2,500-meter race featuring 20 challenging obstacles, Kisoma, who also serves as an Assistant Lecturer at Mzumbe University in Morogoro, showcased extraordinary strength and endurance.

“Despite losing all her bands during the race, she pushed through to complete the course, embodying resilience in the face of adversity,” Chapa stated.

Noted that on Day 2, Kisoma faced an even greater challenge—the 5,000-meter race with 30 obstacles in the Open age group category and despite the increased difficulty, she once again demonstrated her unwavering spirit.

“Although she encountered setbacks and lost her bands again, she overcame every obstacle and completed the race, exemplifying true perseverance,” Chapa added.

While Kisoma’s racing events concluded with her participation in the 2,500m and 5,000m races, Tanzania’s contribution to the championship extends beyond game performance.

The country is also represented by a Technical Official (TO) overseeing one of the obstacles, ensuring the smooth execution of the event.

“This involvement not only supports the championship but also provides a valuable experience that will help develop Tanzania’s sports community,” Chapa explained.

Kisoma’s participation in both the Abu Dhabi and Dubai world events has earned her the prestigious Trifecta status, a milestone that also secures Tanzania’s direct inclusion in qualifying events for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Chapa emphasised that the skills and insights gained from this prestigious competition are expected to significantly enhance the local sporting landscape.

Kisoma is set to return home today, carrying not just her personal achievements but also the promise of a brighter future for Tanzanian sports on the global stage.
