MOROGORO: THE Kilombero Golf Open 2026 teed off yesterday at Kilombero Country and Golf Club in Morogoro, bringing together golfers from seven clubs for a three-day competition running until Sunday.

The tournament, the first of its kind to be held at the estate, aims to promote golf, strengthen competition and encourage greater stakeholder participation in the development of the sport in Tanzania. The participating clubs are TPDF Lugalo Golf Club, Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club, Kilimanjaro Golf Club, TPC Club, Morogoro Gymkhana Club, Mufindi Golf Club and hosts Kilombero Golf Club.

Speaking at the event’s opening, Kilombero Country Club Chairman and Kilombero Sugar Growers Director Pierre Redinger said the tournament provides a platform for golfers to compete, share experiences and promote the sport’s growth.

“Hosting the Kilombero Golf Open allows us to bring together golfers from different clubs, strengthen competition and encourage more people to discover the sport,” he said.

Redinger expressed confidence that the tournament would contribute to the continued development of golf and attract more participants from across the country. NBC Bank, the tournament’s sponsor, said its partnership with Kilombero Sugar reflects its commitment to sports development, nurturing young talent and creating opportunities for players to gain international recognition.
