Kili Stars setback: No one to blame

ZANZIBAR: KILIMANJARO Stars Coach, Ahmad Ally, has underscored that the team’s elimination from Mapinduzi Cup tournament serves as a valuable learning experience as they prepare for upcoming competitions.

He stressed that no individual should be blamed for the team’s performance. Coach Ally made the remarks following a 2-0 defeat to Burkina Faso at Gombani Stadium in Pemba on Thursday evening.

The loss marked Kilimanjaro Stars’ third consecutive defeat, having previously fallen 1-0 to Zanzibar Heroes and Kenya in their opening matches.

“Our team included several younger, less experienced players. We have lost, but now it’s time to move on and focus on preparing for future competitions. The defeat was a result of several mistakes made during the games, but there is no one to blame,” said Coach Ally.

As a result of the poor run of results, Kilimanjaro Stars finished at the bottom of the standings, while Burkina Faso’s win ensured they topped the group with seven points, having previously defeated Zanzibar Heroes and drawn 1-1 with Kenya in their opener.

Burkina Faso’s victory has secured them a spot in the Mapinduzi Cup final, where they will face the winner of the Zanzibar Heroes and Kenya match.

Despite the loss, Ally expressed optimism, noting that it was a valuable opportunity for the young players to gain experience.

“The tournament may be ending soon, but it’s a great learning opportunity for our players,” he added.

On the other hand, Burkina Faso’s Captain, Adophe Belem, credited the team’s thorough preparation for their success.

“We are now focused on the final. Our goal is to leave Pemba Island as champions,” he said.
