Kengold end Premier League winless streak

MBEYA: KENGOLD secured a much needed 2-0 victory over Fountain Gate at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya yesterday, ending a prolonged winless streak dating back to October last year.

Selemani Bwenzi opened the scoring in the 33rd minute, coolly converting a penalty to give Kengold the lead.

Despite Fountain Gate’s relentless efforts to find an equaliser, Kengold’s defence held firm, frustrating their opponents throughout the match.

The decisive moment came in the 85th minute when Obrey Chirwa delivered a stunning goal. Rogers Freddy provided a perfectly placed cross, which Chirwa met with a powerful diving header, doubling the lead and sending Kengold’s supporters into rapturous celebrations.

The victory, long overdue, was a cathartic release for the players and fans alike, who have endured a string of disappointing results. While the win did not change Kengold’s position at the bottom of the league table—they remain with just nine points from 18 matches—it offered a glimmer of hope for a potential turnaround.

Their last victory came in October against JKT Tanzania, and since then, it’s been a series of disappointments.
