Kengold’s Heric focused on league survival

GEITA: AFTER a challenging first half of the season, Mbeya based Kengold’s head coach, Vladislav Heric, has said that his primary objective is to ensure the team survives relegation.

Heric has been focused on increasing the intensity of their attack and guiding the team up from the bottom of the league table.

In the first half of the season, Kengold earned just six points from 16 matches, leaving them with 14 games to turn things around.

During the month-long break, Kengold brought in coach Heric, who has since introduced several key players, including Bernard Morrison, Kelvin Yondani and Obrey Chirwa, with hopes of improving the team’s performance.

So far, Kengold has won once, drawn three times and lost 12 matches. Heric made these comments during his team’s training session yesterday at the CCM Sokoine Memorial Stadium, where he also expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance in their two recent friendly matches. Kengold held Tanzania Prisons FC to a 1-1 draw and played to a goalless draw against Mbeya Combine.

Heric explained that he has carefully assessed each player’s abilities and is pleased with the overall quality of the squad. However, he acknowledged that the main issue remains in the final third, particularly with converting chances.

He vowed to work hard with the team to improve their finishing and ensure they take full advantage of the opportunities they create. “Our goal is to stay in the Premier League, despite the pressure we are under,” Heric stated.

“I am confident in the players we have brought in, and we are working hard to turn things around. There is still a lack of attacking space, but once we address this, I plan to introduce a new strategy before our match against Young Africans.”

Newly signed player Bernard Morrison also shared his thoughts, highlighting the team’s collective determination. “Our goal is clear — we are fighting to keep Kengold in the Premier League,” Morrison said.

“We urge the fans not to give up on us. I believe the current results will change, and we’ll rise in the standings. We have the will to succeed.” He added, “Please continue supporting us. We are determined and ready to fight on the field. We’ll treat the rest of the league as a fresh start to make sure we avoid relegation.”
