Katavi on course to complete classrooms
THE construction works of 119 classrooms in secondary schools at the cost of 2.38 bn/- in Katavi region are reportedly in good progress, it has been learnt.
The sixth phase administration in October this year allocated some 2.38 bn/- for construction of secondary schools in all five councils in Katavi region for classroom construction.
Katavi Regional Commissioner, Ms Mwanamvua Mrindoko revealed that the project was expected to be completed before the next academic year.
“Upon completion, about 5,950 children, among them pupils who excelled in Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE), will not be left on roadways as all of them will be selected to join Form One in one selection.
So far the construction of the classrooms is expected to address congestion in classrooms of which 40 classrooms, equivalent to 34 percent of 119 classrooms have reached final stages of completion, while 79 classrooms are in different stages of construction,” the RC explained.
Ms Mrindoko urged the project supervisors, including school heads and ward councilors to make sure the construction of new classrooms reflects value for money of the fund spent on the project, deadline as well as quality as directed by the government.
“We want to witness funds disbursed by the central government is utilized well and effectively, we will not allow any loophole leading to project’s funds embezzlement,” vowed Ms Mrindoko
She went ahead to say : “Make sure you adhere to every stage of project architectural design of the project, including procurement and expenditure to be carried out through force account system.
“The project deadline has been scheduled for on December 15 this year, but our plan as a region we expect the project will be handed over on December 7 this year.”
Additionally, she called upon contractors to ensure that all buildings meet standards.
On his side, the Katavi Regional Education Officer, Mr Bandanda Elphidius congratulated all heads of schools who managed to reach the stage of roofing the new classrooms.
