Kassam advances as TZ earns ICC umpiring recognition boost

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA cricket has received a major boost after experienced umpire Adil Kassam advanced to the interview stage for selection to the prestigious ICC Development Panel A.
Only four umpires from Africa will ultimately be appointed to the panel, making Kassam’s achievement a significant milestone for both Tanzanian cricket and the country’s officiating standards on the international stage.
Celebrating the achievement, Dr Balakrishan Sreekumar, Chairman of the Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA), praised Kassam’s progress and urged the cricket fraternity to rally behind him ahead of the crucial interview. “Join me in congratulating our Adil (Kassam) for successfully progressing to the interview stage where the best four umpires from Africa will be appointed to the ICC Development Panel A,” said Dr Sreekumar.
“This is a huge win for TCA as well as for Kassam, and let’s wish him good luck for the interview tomorrow (today).” Responding to the support, Kassam acknowledged the role played by TCA leadership, fellow umpires, and the wider cricket community in helping him reach this stage.
“One person who has fought very hard to get us umpires into the Development Panel is Dr Sreekumar,” Kassam said. “Thank you very much to my fellow umpires, seniors, legends of the game, and all stakeholders for your encouragement and support.
“I am truly honoured by this opportunity and proud to represent Tanzania at this stage of the ICC Development Panel A selection process.” Kassam stressed that the journey is not yet complete, noting that he remains fully focused on the final interview and examination.

“This achievement is not mine alone, it reflects the collective efforts, guidance, and belief of everyone who has supported my journey,” he added. “That said, the task is not yet complete.
There is still one important step ahead, the interview and examination tomorrow and I remain fully focused, prepared, and committed to giving my very best.”
“I sincerely appreciate all your good wishes and prayers. Your support means a lot, and God willing I will strive to make Tanzania cricket proud.” The achievement has attracted congratulations from cricket legends and stakeholders both within Tanzania and abroad, including Kenyan cricket personality Subash Modi.
Modi praised Kassam’s dedication and acknowledged the support provided by TCA in helping Tanzanian umpires gain recognition internationally. “Well done to Adil for climbing up the stairs in the umpiring world with the support of TCA,” Modi said. “Hard work, sincerity and dedication are key to success.”
