MWANZA: AFTER a disappointing performance in the first-round campaign of the Premier League, Kagera Sugar FC have announced plans for intensive training to ensure better results in the second half of the league.
The team’s manager, Benard Sikira, acknowledged the first-round performance was unacceptable and outlined a commitment to better preparation for the upcoming fixtures.
Sikira, the former manager of Pamba Jiji FC, explained that the team struggled during the first round due to a lack of experience among many of the players, with several newcomers struggling to integrate with the squad.
He revealed that the team will use the league break to enhance both their tactical approach and overall team strength ahead of the second round, which kicks off in March.
“We will be returning to camp next week to prepare for the second round, which starts in March. We’ve given our players a three-week break,” Sikira said.
To improve their performance, the team will also engage in friendly matches to assess their readiness before the league resumes.

Sikira urged fans and other stakeholders to continue supporting the team as they focus on building a stronger squad. “We are still going back to the training ground to strengthen ourselves and tackle the challenges we faced in the first round.
Our goal is to ensure that when the league resumes, we perform better because the position we’re currently in is not reflective of what we deserve,” Sikira added.
The manager also commended the changes made to the technical bench by coach Melis Medo, noting that positive results were beginning to show.
Looking ahead, Sikira confirmed that the team would recruit two or three new players to bolster the squad and address key weaknesses, particularly in attack.
“Our biggest challenge has been scoring goals. We create chances but fail to convert them. After evaluating our performance, especially the match against Simba, the technical bench has agreed on alternative methods to improve our finishing,” he explained.
Currently, Kagera Sugar FC sits second from the bottom in the Premier League standings, with just 15 points from 15 matches. They have won two, drawn five and lost eight games.
