JKT pledges to enroll more youth

COASTAL REGION: THE government has said that it will continue to create a suitable environment for the youth to join National Service (JKT) programs to enable them to be patriotic, productive, and contribute to national development.

Kibaha District Commissioner, Mr Nickson John, made the remarks during the graduation ceremony dubbed ‘Operation 60 years of National Service’ at 832 Ruvu JKT in Kibaha District, Coast Region, on Tuesday.

“JKT has remained the best place where our youth are trained to be productive through various entrepreneurship skills while at the camps, which make them capable of starting their projects. Our government will ensure there is always a friendly environment for our youth to benefit from these programs,” he said.

Ruvu JKT Commanding Officer (CO) Col. Elias Mnyani said a total of 776 youth (338 girls and 438 boys) started the training on December 27th last year. He also mentioned that 24 youth failed to finish the training due to truancy, bad behavior, and others terminated the contract voluntarily.

“These youth who are graduating today have undergone intensive training on first aid, entrepreneurship, jungle survival, dealing with disasters, civic education, and basic military training,” he explained.

“After completing this training, the youth will undergo another 20 months of training at Vocational Educational Training Authority (VETA) colleges where they will be equipped with various skills,” he stated.

Expounding, Col. Mnyani said that after completing 20 months of training in VETA colleges, the youth will then be posted to different National Service camps for a two-year voluntary program. Chief of Defense Force (CDF) Gen.

Jacob Mkunda, who was represented by Major General Ibrahim Mhona, Head of Military Training in the Defense Force, urged youth to stick to what they have been taught and use the skills they have acquired to serve the nation.
