The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will next year embark on promoting learning and innovation where over 300 local innovators will meet with their Japanese counterparts to intensify learning and knowledge exchange.
The innovators will mainly focus on students studying at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), innovators and lecturers, who will meet innovators and lecturers from Japan based universities for sharing knowledge and experience.
“JICA will start this programme in February next year in partnership with UDSM and the Ministry of Education Science and Technology and other government institutions,” JICA’s Administrative Officer, Mr Alfred Zakaria said in Dar es Salaam during the commemoration of 60 years of JICA presence in Tanzania.
Mr Zakaria said that the initiative will include a panel discussion which will be followed by a lecture session from the academicians from both countries who will share the situation, success and challenges facing the innovation sector of the two countries.
“Later they will share education behind success and business challenges arising in the innovation to develop common goals,” he said.
JICA Senior Representative, Mr Watanabe Hideki said that for the past sixty years, JICA has been coordinating learning whereby 2020, about 6,500 Tanzanians participated in JICA training programmes.
He said the beneficiaries have so far got an opportunity to gain Japan’s advanced skills and technology.
“Some Tanzanian Journalists from different media houses also have gone to Japan on various learning tours where they learnt different skills and experiences needed to uplift the media industry,” he said
He said that also nearly 2,000 volunteers from Japan have come to Tanzania to join training institutions and in turn learnt the Kiswahili language which embraces the culture of peace Tanzania has been enjoying for a long time.
