Isles’ Sports City project sees good progress ahead of AFCON finals

ZANZIBAR: PRESIDENT Hussein Ali Mwinyi has visited and inspected the progress of the construction of the strategic Zanzibar Sports City project being implemented in the Fumba area, in the Urban West Region, as part of preparations for the AFCON 2027.
During the visit, President Mwinyi assured the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports, along with ORKUN GROUP, that the government is all set to ensure that the construction is carried out swiftly, efficiently, and with international standards.
Moreover, Dr Mwinyi urged the Ministry and the contractor not to delay in presenting any challenges so as to allow the government to provide quick solutions.
During the inspection, the Isle’s President was accompanied by the Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Riziki Pemba Juma, and his Deputy Minister, Ali Abdulgullam Hussein.

The Zanzibar Sports City project is among the strategic projects being implemented by Zanzibar’s government to strengthen sports infrastructure and promote the development of the sports sector in the country.
The first phase of the project includes the construction of an International Football Stadium with a capacity of 36,500 spectators, along with two training fields, each with a capacity of 15,000 spectators. One of the fields will also be used for National celebrations.
The construction of the project is expected to be completed by December 2026.
