Irate mob lynches 15-year old boy
IRATE mob have lynched a resident of Shanwe Ward in Mpanda Municipality, Katavi region Maiko Chapa (15), accusing him for associating with notorious juvenile group dubbed ” damu chafu”, allegedly engaging in criminal activities in different parts of the municipality.
Katavi Regional Police Commander (RPC) Alli Makame confirmed the incident, noting that police have mounted manhunt for the suspects.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mr Makame, the notorious juvenile groups have been terrorizing people in some parts of the municipality.
“They are becoming serious threat to the safety and security of people and their properties in Majengo, Nswemulwa and Kazuma streets here.
As of late, they also target funeral gatherings, bars, night clubs and pubs as well as people walking on streets at night, wielding machetes and other lethal weapons and subsequently made away with valuable items including cell phones and cash “explained the RPC.
Meanwhile, the police have apprehended fifteen notorious youth aged between 14 and 17 years old for allegedly engaging in criminal activities in different parts of Mpanda municipality.
RPC Makame said the apprehension of the suspects was made possible following a crackdown against juvenile groups who all are responsible for recurring of armed robbery and assaults in some parts of Mpanda.
Police have also arrested ten suspects for illegal possession of seven locally made firearms and 28 rounds of ammunition.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), RPC Makame told reporters here that besides the apprehension, the force also seized seven locally made firearms and 28 rounds of ammunition.
“The seven suspects were featuring on police record as hardcore poachers” added the RPC.
He further stressed that the crackdown to arrest criminals was continuous, targeting to uncover all criminal gangs and brought them to books.
