Indonesia injects 547,624 US dollars into Tanzania’s agricultural training system

MOROGORO: INDONESIA has injected over 547,624 US dollars into the development of Tanzania’s agricultural training system, strengthening practical farmer training and modern farming technology at the Mkindo Farmers Training Centre in Morogoro.
The funding supports infrastructure expansion and equipment upgrades aimed at improving hands-on agricultural training for farmers and extension officers across the country.
The development was highlighted during an inspection visit by a delegation from Indonesia’s Ministry of Agriculture as part of the Fourth Joint Agriculture Cooperation Committee (JACC) between Tanzania and Indonesia.

Information from the Ministry of Agriculture on Thursday noted that under the programme, the funds have been used for the construction of a classroom accommodating 80 students, a new dormitory, and the rehabilitation of an existing one, increasing the centre’s capacity to host 64 farmers in residence training.
Additional support includes renovation of sanitation facilities, procurement of a vehicle, motorcycles, power tillers, planters, computers, printers, beds, mattresses, and drilling of boreholes, as well as fencing of the training facility.

Indonesia’s Deputy Ambassador and Head of Economic Affairs in Tanzania, Priadji Soelaiman, said the government of Indonesia remains committed to supporting the remaining stages of implementation and expanding cooperation into agricultural research, markets and mechanisation.
Tanzania’s Ministry of Agriculture Assistant Director for Training and Research, Godfrey Edward, said the partnership is already improving farmer skills through practical training and access to modern agricultural technologies.

The Mkindo Farmers Training Centre, established in 1996, has trained 9,654 farmers and 1,783 extension officers, focusing on key crops including rice, cocoa, vanilla, palm oil, horticulture and apples.
