AT least 90 Indian engineering companies will exhibit and share their expertise in Tanzania from today, a move that is expected to transfer technologies to Tanzanian entrepreneurs and companies.
Coming under the auspices of the Indian Engineering Exhibition (INDEE), the companies will have opportunities to meet Tanzanian engineering companies and entrepreneurs at the INDEE edition to take place at Diamond Jubilee Hall till Saturday.
This is the first time for the INDEE to take place in Africa, and Tanzania was chosen to host the 42nd edition.
The event is organized by the EEPC India in collaboration with India’s government, the Indian High Commission in Tanzania, and the Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (TCCIA).
Speaking at a press conference in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday, Indian High Commissioner to Tanzania, Mr Binayak Srikanta, said Tanzania has a substantial share in India’s engineering exports to East Africa.
In terms of engineering, India’s exports to Tanzania stood at 550.10 million US dollars in 2021/22 while the total bilateral trade stood at 4.58 billion US dollars in 2021/22, recording a 92.9 per cent growth from the same period last year.
Through the INDEE 2022 in Dar es Salaam the Indian manufacturers will get an opportunity to explore the entire Eastern and Central African market. The Chairman of EEPC India, Mr Mahesh Desal, said India is among top five suppliers to Tanzania with significant share in their import basket.
“The INDEE is one such step towards a deeper and more beneficial cooperation between the two countries,” Mr Desal argued.
At a press conference on Wednesday, the EEPC also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the TCCIA to expedite and carry forward the businesses and agreements that will emanate from the INDEE 2022.
TCCIA President Mr Paul Koyi expressed their commitment to work with the EEPC in a view to building capacity among the Tanzanian manufacturers and entrepreneur.
