India envoy commends Samia for boosting FDIs
KILIMANJARO: THE Indian High Commissioner to Tanzania, Mr Bishwadip Dey, has lauded President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her exceptional leadership, particularly in strengthening international relations, which has played a crucial role in encouraging foreign direct investments (FDIs).
Mr Dey made the remarks on Wednesday in Moshi, Kilimanjaro Region, during a session with local business leaders organised by the Indian High Commission, the Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner’s Office and the Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (TCCIA) Kilimanjaro office.
“President Samia’s efforts, including her visit to India in October 2023, have greatly enhanced the relationship between Tanzania and India, a relationship that dates back to the era of the late Mwalimu Julius Nyerere,” said Mr Dey.
“Tanzania is fortunate to have a leader who has continued the excellent work of her predecessors, fostering good international relations. This has made the country an attractive destination for foreign investments,” he added.
Regarding his visit to Kilimanjaro Region, the high commissioner explained that the goal was to meet with local traders and discuss the region’s investment opportunities, which he believes will foster increased business interactions between Kilimanjaro’s business community and Indian investors.

“This is an opportunity to increase the value of trade and investments between our two countries, which currently exceed 4 billion US dollars,” he said.
During the event, Moshi District Commissioner Mr Godfrey Mnzava thanked the Indian High Commission for facilitating the meeting with local traders. He said that, if fully leveraged, such initiatives could significantly boost the Kilimanjaro Region’s economy.
“Kilimanjaro is rich in investment opportunities, and if utilised effectively, these can contribute not only to the region’s economy but also to the nation’s overall growth,” said Mr Mnzava, who was representing Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner Mr Nurdin Babu.
He further said that the government, under President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s leadership, has been actively creating a favourable investment environment, which has attracted numerous investors to the region.
“Kilimanjaro offers a friendly investment climate, including a peaceful society, strong administrative support, good road networks and easy access to electricity and water,” Mr Mnzava added.
Earlier, Mr James Bwanali, the trade officer at the Kilimanjaro Regional Secretariat, emphasised the various investment opportunities available in the region, covering sectors such as industry, agriculture, tourism, healthcare, infrastructure and education.
Chairman of TCCIA in Kilimanjaro, Mr Sebastian Assenga expressed his gratitude to both the government and the Indian High Commission for organising the event.
He noted that it would serve as a catalyst for promoting business in the region and assured the TCCIA’s full support in fostering closer ties between Kilimanjaro traders and Indian investors.
