DAR ES SALAAM: THE government has called upon stakeholders in education and vocational training to offer programs that align with the real demands of the job market.
Vocational training has been named the key producer of those serving in the informal sector, as the findings of the International Labour Organization (ILO) show that nearly 70 percent of Tanzanians are employed in the informal sector.
Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa remarked during the occasion to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA) in Dar es Salaam.

He said, according to the International Labour Organization (ILO) statistics, nearly 70 percent of all employment is in the informal sector, with vocational education graduates being particularly prevalent in industries such as agriculture, construction, transportation, and social services.
‘’ In our country, employment data from 2020 to 2024 shows that 7 million jobs were created, with 6.1 million (87.1 percent) of them in the informal sector. Most of these workers have vocational training, while 907,873 (12.9 percent) are employed in the formal sector, where the majority have higher education qualifications,’’ said
This highlights the significant role of vocational training in meeting labor market demands, especially in sectors that are key to economic growth and social development.
