AT least 600 youths in Ilemela and Sengerema districts in Mwanza region are set to benefit from entrepreneurship-related training programme in efforts to support government in fight against unemployment.
This has been made possible through a-two year ‘Enhancing youth Entrepreneurship and Employability (EYEE) project, which is implemented by Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) organisation in collaboration with the Tanzanian government, under sponsorship of the Standard Chartered Foundation.
“The project also involves financial management as well as life skills training. It took-off in 2021 and will end by end of this year,” the VSO Youth Engagement and Empowerment Advisor, Mr Eziboni Mnahi, said in ongoing Nanenane exhibitions in Mwanza.
He added that the targeted youths are those aged between 18 to 34 years, affirming that they are also taught on business ideas introduction and development.
At-least half of the targeted beneficiaries have already graduated and fully engaged in various entrepreneurship activities, including tailoring as well as bar and liquid soaps manufacturing.
VSO also links the graduates in groups with various institutions, for capital expansion through among others, loans access, he said.
At the same time, he added, Small Industries Development Organisation (SIDO) is consulted, for the market connection to their products.
The training beneficiaries, including Mr David Maduhu of Luhenda Entrepreneurship Group, extended the gratitude to EYEE implementers, saying the youth have got a lot to do with the project, mostly self-employment promotion.
The Group has engaged in especially vegetable farming, expecting to have its first harvests batch next month.
He called on his fellows to embrace creativity, for expansion of their investments as well as make them confident to withstand the competitions in the business arena.
“We are also thankful to the Ward office that becomes supportive to help the youth join the project, whose graduates make employment to their fellows in the society,” he said.w said.
