NIGERIA: TANZANIA faces a critical test in the ICC Under-19 Mens Cricket World Cup Africa Qualifier Division 1 as they take on Namibia at TBS Oval, Lagos, Nigeria, today.
Both teams remain unbeaten, making this match a potential decider in the race for the tournament’s frontrunner.
Namibia, with a net run rate (NRR) of 0.56, will be eager to challenge Tanzania’s dominance and stake its claim at the top of the standings.
Tanzania has been the team to beat in the ongoing tournament, sitting comfortably at the summit after securing two consecutive wins.
With an NRR of 1.95, Tanzania leads the table ahead of Kenya and Namibia, both of whom also have four points but trail in NRR in this six-nation competition.
Tanzania’s captain, Laksh Bakrania, who won the Player of the Match award against Nigeria over the weekend, will be expected to lead from the front against a strong Namibian side.

He delivered a stellar all-round performance in that match, scoring a composed 44 runs off 79 balls to anchor the batting lineup.
His bowling was equally impressive, returning figures of 3 wickets for just 11 runs in 7 overs, including 3 maidens. This outstanding effort played a key role in Tanzania’s commanding 122-run victory over Nigeria.
In their opening match, Tanzania defeated Uganda by 73 runs, with Agustino Mwamele delivering a brilliant all-round performance to earn the Player of the Match award.
Elsewhere, Sierra Leone will face Uganda at UNILAG Oval, with both teams still searching for their first win of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Kenya secured their second consecutive victory over the weekend, defeating Uganda by 7 wickets in a dominant display on Sunday.
With Tanzania aiming to extend their winning streak and maintain their lead, all eyes will be on their crucial encounter against Namibia. A victory would further cement their status as tournament favourites, while Namibia will be determined to pull off an upset and claim the top spot.
Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) Chairman Balakrishnan Sreekumar praised the team’s efforts so far.
“It was two great wins for our boys in blue. Head Coach Imran Nackerdien ensured hard work, discipline and a team-first mentality, and it paid off.
