Heads of departments who skip council meetings face measures
GEITA Regional Commissioner, Martin Shigela has ordered disciplinary measures to be taken against heads of departments in Chato district council in Geita Region who ignore attending council meetings.
Mr Shigela issued the order recently in a special session of the Chato district council aimed at listening and discussing the report from the Office of the Controller and Auditor General (CAG).
The order comes following complaints from the Chairman of the Chato District Council that some heads of departments ignore the council meetings.
“Now let me tell you, as long as you have records of previous meetings showing that they did not attend, you discussed issues while they were absent, now start taking disciplinary measures against them.
“They should explain why they did not attend the sessions. We want by September, all heads of departments who do not obey the instructions given must be reported so that we can deal with them,” he insisted.
The Geita Regional Administrative Secretary, Professor Godius Kahyarara, directed that the council must also take disciplinary action against its employees who violate rules, laws and ethics.
Earlier, Chato District Council chairman, Mr Batromeo Manunga, complained that one of the challenging departments in the council is the environment department which has been ignoring the council’s resolutions.
The representative from the CAG office, Mr Lutengano Humbo, said in the financial year 2020/21, Chato district council was supposed to respond to 27 issues raised in the CAG report, but only 21 were clarified.
