Govt, ProjeKt Inspire to establish STEM park in Dodoma

DODOMA: THE government, through the Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH), in collaboration with ProjeKt Inspire, has announced plans to establish a state-of-the-art Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) park in Dodoma.

The initiative aims to nurture the talents of one million Tanzanian students by providing hands-on learning experiences that enhance their understanding of STEM subjects.

The announcement was made by Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Adolf Mkenda, during the 10th anniversary celebration of ProjeKt Inspire.

He emphasised that the STEM park will help bridge the gap in access to quality STEM education, equipping young learners with essential skills for future careers.

“This project seeks to provide critical STEM skills, fostering innovation and creativity among youth, which will contribute to national development,” said Prof Mkenda.

He highlighted the expected support from Members of Parliament and government officials, whose involvement will be key to the project’s success.

He also urged institutions involved in STEM education to take advantage of this opportunity to transform STEM learning in the country.

ProjeKt Inspire CoFounder, Lwidiko Mhamilawa, shared that the organisation recently conducted a STEM boot camp at Mtakuja in Shule ya Magomeni, benefiting over 700 students.

The programme exposed them to various STEM fields, furthering ProjeKt Inspire’s mission of empowering young people with the knowledge and skills needed in a technology-driven world.

“ProjeKt Inspire is committed to expanding its reach to more regions and introducing a wider range of STEM programmes,” he said, adding that the goal is to inspire the next generation of innovators, engineers and leaders, preparing them for global economic challenges.

One of the programme’s beneficiaries, Mr Innocent Simon, an Assistant Instructor in STEM, shared his success story, urging young people to take advantage of STEM education.

“Thanks to ProjeKt Inspire, I attended multiple boot camps, participated in an international programme in London and earned a scholarship in Electrical Engineering. I encourage young people to engage in STEM studies because of the vast opportunities available,” he said.
