DAR ES SALAAM: THE government has issued a three-month deadline for the Tanzania Trade Development Authority (TANTRADE) to finalise the acquisition of the official ‘Made in Tanzania’ logo, a pivotal step in enhancing the country’s global brand identity.
Minister for Industry and Trade, Dr Selemani Jafo, made the statement in Dar es Salaam yesterday, revealing the best designs that won in the ‘Made in Tanzania’ logo competition.
Earlier, in November last year, Tantrade announced a tender for the innovation of the ‘Made in Tanzania’ logo and three designs out of 88 met the required standards.
“Within three months, assemble a team of experts and judges to finalise the best logo. It must be ready before the Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF), with a launch on July 7th,” he stated.
Dr Jafo emphasised that the logo will enhance Tanzania’s global recognition, stating, “This will help our country gain acknowledgment in international markets.”
He highlighted opportunities like the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which involves over 53 countries, to strengthen Tanzania’s trade position.

He added that the three winning designs showcase Tanzania’s talent and a team of experts will refine and select the final logo.
TanTrade Director General, Ms Latifa Khamis, explained that 88 submissions were received, narrowed down to the top three.
The logo aims to boost national identity, promote local pride and improve global recognition, helping Tanzanian products stand out and ensuring quality assurance.
The Chairman of Amir Hamza (T) Ltd, Mr Amir Esmail, noted that the logo is crucial for promoting Tanzanian craftsmanship and increasing competitiveness in the global market.
He added that the lack of a national logo had previously forced businesses to use generic labels, while neighbouring countries already had their own.
“Though we’re late, it’s a significant step forward. Tanzanian products are of higher quality and now they will be recognised globally,” he said.
