Govt earns over 780m/- in bill board taxes

ZANZIBAR: THE government has collected over 780m/- through bill board taxes during the 2024/2025 fiscal year, the House of Representatives was told here on Tuesday.
Minister of State, President’s Office, Regional Administration, Local Government and Special Departments Masoud Ali Mohamed told the house that 1,586 adverts were placed through permissions from the local government authorities.
The minister described the adverts as one of the local authorities’ sources of revenues, saying advertisers are required to seek permission from the local government authorities’ offices in their respective areas.
The minister was answering a question by Mtambwe Legislator Dr Mohamed Ali Suleiman who wanted to know among other things the amount of taxes collected from bill board adverts, saying there is an increasing number of adverts along the roads.
