Govt allocates funds for Holili-Tarakea road

KILIMANJARO: The government has allocated 0.99 billion Tanzanian shillings for the reconstruction of a section of the Holili-Tarakea Nayemi road in Rombo district, Kilimanjaro region, which has suffered significant damage, to improve mobility.

This funding is aimed at facilitating the restoration of a 0.68 km section that has suffered significant damage of the larger 52.8 km Holili (Lotima) – Tarakea road construction project and facilitate Tanzania and Kenya border business prior to the main work.

The Kilimanjaro’s Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) Acting Regional Manager, Eng Benitho Mozovela, told the regional members the ruling party CCM leadership on Monday the road improving Rombo district road networks and facilitated the border business.

“This section of the road is fully funded by the government,” Eng Mozovela said while briefing the team on the implementation of the CCM 2020/25 election manifesto.

“This is a strategic border road connecting the two countries to facilitate not only businesses but also supports tourism sector,” the regional engineer said.

Additionally, according to Eng Mozovela, the construction of 10 kilometres Ikuini-Kirongo Chini road is on procurement stage.

The Kilimanjaro’s CCM Regional Secretary, Ms Mercy Mollel, applauded TANROADS for the good work, noting that the government decided to upgrade the road from the district level to the regional level due to its economic importance.

“This project is strategic because it aims, among other things, to serve the people and promote the national economy, given its geographical location in the border area,” she said.
