GGML commits to support media’s access to its productive activities

GEITA: THE Geita Gold Mining Limited (GGML) has expressed its interests and readiness to work with all media outlets in faclitating access to accurate information about the company’s activities and its support to development projects.
GGML Manager for Communications and Public Relations, Mr Stephen Mhando, made the remarks recently during a special workshop for journalists in Geita Region organised by GGML.
He said GGML, through its Public Relations Department, is committed to strengthening cooperation to ensure that all journalists, without discrimination, have access to accurate information about the company’s activities.
Mr Mhando said GGML’s aspiration is to ensure that the public receives accurate information, at the right time and from credible sources, regarding GGML’s investments as well as government-implemented development projects.
He said productive journalism would help reduce or completely eliminate unnecessary conflicts between investors and communities, investors and the government, or communities and the government over development projects.
Meanwhile, the workshop facilitator and Senior Journalist with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), Mr Sammy Awami, urged journalists to adhere to professional standards.
He said productive journalism is journalism that produces engaging stories for audiences without violating professional principles, by using credible sources and avoiding bias.

He said a journalist who upholds professional standards and performs their duties without bias has a greater opportunity to produce valuable information capable of bringing about positive transformation in society.
Earlier, while officially opening the workshop, AngloGold Ashanti Vice President, the company that owns GGML, Mr Simon Shayo, said they value the media because it is an important stakeholder in their operations.
Mr Shayo said GGML’s vision is to work with both private and public institutions, noting that accurate information would help promote productive cooperation in investment activities.
