Gamondi hails winhungry Yanga
DAR ES SALAAM: YOUNG Africans Head Coach, Miguel Gamondi, has hailed his team for outstanding performances in the Premier League matches.
Specifically he talked of the latest match against Ihefu FC that saw the Jangwani lads’ bag 5-0 at Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam on Monday evening.
The win helped Yanga maintain their lead in the league log with 49 points from 18 games, five points ahead of second-placed team Azam, who have 44 points from 20 matches.
After the match, Gamondi stated that they played very well and respected Ihefu, who also put up a good performance and worked hard to contain their pressure.
He further explained that they created several scoring opportunities and capitalized on some.
The victory was a fitting retaliation for the defending champions, who suffered a 2-1 defeat in the first-round encounter at Southern Highland Estates Stadium in Mbarali, Mbeya.
Gamondi explained that in the first half Ihefu defended with many players in their defence area, but effective strategies were employed to find a solution.
He emphasized that he has always told his players to play as they wwre directed and ultimately practised and demonstrated on in the training field.
However, facing a resilient Ihefu in the second half, Gamondi made tactical changes, introducing Joseph Guede and Augustine Okrah to capitalize on their speed in counter-attacks, which proved successful.
Ihefu Head Coach, Mecky Mexime, acknowledged of his team’s missed opportunities, but praised Yanga for the deserving win.
He further explained that they also managed to create a few scoring chances, but they did not utilize them well by turning them into goals.
In other news, Yanga Coach Gamondi has been named Coach of the Month for February, surpassing contenders Abdelhak Benchikha of Simba and Ahmad Ally of Tanzania Prisons, marking his second accolade following his previous win in August last year.
Looking ahead, Yanga is set to host Geita Gold at the same venue on Thursday, while Ihefu will travel to play Coastal Union at Mkwakwani Stadium in Tanga on the same day.
