Samia to launch children recreation ground
ZANZIBAR: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan is expected today to officially launch a newly constructed children’s recreation ground at Kibuteni as part of activities marking the 2026 Kizimkazi Festival, before visiting exhibition stalls showcasing products and activities by hundreds of participants at Dimbani, Zanzibar.
Launch of the children’s facility is among a series of activities lined up for the celebratios, as the annual Kizimkazi Festival brings together residents and visitors for a programme featuring cultural, social and community activities.
Secretary of the Kizimkazi Festival 2026 Organising Committee, Hamid Abdulhamid Khamis, said preparations for the official launch of the children’s recreation ground had been completed.
He noted that further details about the construction and development of the facility would be provided during the official launch.
“Things are going very well, and we thank our development partners for supporting us,” Khamis said.
He added that President Samia would also tour the exhibition stalls at Dimbani, where more than hundred exhibitors, including entrepreneurs and commercial banks are already serving people.
The President’s activities will form part of a wider programme involving senior government leaders and a number of community events across Kizimkazi.
The day’s programme will begin with a walking event led by Zanzibar President and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Hussein Ali Mwinyi, starting at 6.am in the morning from Mchangamle to Dimbani.
President Mwinyi will then preside over the official opening of the festival and exhibitions at Kizimkazi Dimbani. The exhibitions are expected to provide an opportunity for hundreds of residents and participants from Kizimkazi and beyond to showcase their products, activities and initiatives.
Later in the day, traditional boat races will be held along the Kizimkazi Mkunguni Coast between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon, as part of the festival’s cultural and sporting activities, and the guest of honour is expected to be Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba.
The programme will also include inauguration of a Kibuteni Branch by CCM Secretary General, Asha-Rose Migiro between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
The 2026 Kizimkazi Festival is therefore set to combine leadership engagements, community development, cultural activities and exhibitions, with organisers saying preparations for the major events are progressing well.
Khamis expressed appreciation to development partners and other stakeholders for their support, saying their contribution had helped facilitate preparations for this year’s festival.
