Fuel prices in Zanzibar on rise this month
ZANZIBAR: THE Zanzibar Utilities Regulatory Authority (ZURA) announced new fuel prices for April/May where petrol, diesel and jet fuel prices have continued to rise.
ZURA Public Relations Division Manager Mr Mbaraka Hassan Haji, said here at his office that the price of petrol for this month will be 3,133/- up from 3,118/- last month, a difference of 16/- per litre or equivalent to 0.51 per cent.
He said that diesel this month will be sold at 3,165/- up from 3,114/- last month, which is a difference of 51/- per litre, while the jet fuel for this month will be sold at 2,792/- up from 2,636/- last month, and kerosene will continue to be sold at the same price of 3,200/- per litre.
Explaining reasons behind the increase, he said it was because of inflation in the global market, rise in freight transportation and depreciation of the local currency against foreign currency.
He said that ZURA sets the price based on those factors, and that Zanzibar receives its consignment through Dar es Salaam and Tanga ports.
“Fortunately, despite the rise, we have sufficient stock of fuel in fuel recharge stations and in reserve centres. There is no cause for alarm,” he said.
The manager used the opportunity to encourage the public to buy fuel at legitimate filling stations and to demand electronic receipts whenever they buy.
