DAR ES SALAAM: The retail prices of petrol and diesel have decreased in November following a decline in the cost of importing fuel at Tanzania’s major ports.
Kerosene retail prices remain unchanged, according to the fuel price caps published by the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA).
The regulator stated that fuel imported through Dar es Salaam port saw a 3.91 percent decrease in petrol import costs, while diesel import costs experienced a significant increase of 14.48 percent.
At Tanga Port, no changes in import costs were observed. However, at Mtwara Port, fuel import costs saw a slight increase, averaging 0.67 percent for both petrol and diesel.
The statement also highlighted that global oil prices rose in October by 1.56 percent for petrol, 4.99 percent for diesel, and 4.47 percent for kerosene compared to September.

Subsequently, EWURA declared that retail prices for petrol imported through Dar es Salaam port dropped from 3,011/- per liter in September to 2,943/- per liter in October. Diesel will be priced at 2,844/- per liter, a minor reduction from 2,846/-, while kerosene will remain steady at 2,943/- per liter.
In Tanga Port, retail petrol prices dropped from 3,016/- per liter in October to 2,948/- per liter in November, while diesel will cost 2,855/- compared to 2,859/- in September, and kerosene will stay at 2,989/- per liter.
For fuel imported through Mtwara, petrol will be priced at 3,015/-, an increase of 1/- from October; diesel will rise to 2,916/- from 2,862/-, while kerosene will remain at 3,016/- per liter.
EWURA has urged all fuel retailers and wholesalers to adhere strictly to the new prices outlined in their table, with a warning of strict penalties for any violations.
