FRANCIS John (pictured) who coached Tanzanian great marathoners; Alphonce Simbu, Christopher Isegwe and Samson Ramadhan, died in Arusha on Saturday night a day after being involved in a car accident.
John passed away at KMC Hospital in Moshi a day after being involved in a car accident at Maji ya Chai in Arusha. The Secretary General of Arusha Regional Athletic Association (ARAA), Rogat John said the funeral procedures will be unveiled after a meeting with members of his family.
The official hailed the late John for his quality coaching and through his skills, Tanzanian marathoner Simbu has won countless honours in and outside the country.
Other athletes who have been coached by late Francis John include Christopher Isegwe who won a silver medal in the World Athletic Championship in mid 2000s.
Others are Samson Ramadhan who won gold in Club Games of Brisbane Australia in 2005 marathon legends; Boay Akoonay and Zebeday Bayo. He also served Athletic Tanzania(AT) as its chairman before the post was later taken by Anthony Mtaka
